Extra background info

As some of you may know, there are some books published in Japan that elaborated on Phantasy Star Online's background. These books are "The Book of Hunters" and "The PSO: Episode I & II Artbook". Being in Japanese, these books' information have long been out of reach to the vast majority of the Phantasy Star Online players.
But fear not! Courageous people have undertaken some translation of these books for your viewing pleasure. This page will display those translations, and give credit to the translators.

Extra info about Alicia Baz:
Alicia is an orphan because her parents were killed in the war on Coral. She was saved by Heathcliff Flowen, who adopted her as his daughter. He tells her that she is just like a daughter to him, but she does not believe him. When the military commands Flowen to go on Pioneer 1, he tells his friend Donoph Baz to take care of her. (Who's last name she took) She likes Flowen a lot, and so follows him on Pioneer 2 as a lab worker. Donoph, her protector, comes along. She quit the lab because she didn't agree with their methods. Now having lost both Donoph and Flowen, she works with Bernie.

Extra info about Sue:
Sue is an orphan, and joined Black Paper as a sort of second family. Sue is young, but still holds a lot of sway or power in the Black Paper Organization. When Sue speaks about the unstable life-span of Newmans, she reveals some of the uncertainty Newmans have about themselves in general. This unstability results in many newman orphans, presumably because the parents just drop dead at an early age. Sue joins Pioneer 2 because she hears about a new form of life/energy. Sue does not always agree with the ethics behind Black Paper, (showing she retains a consience), but she believes some things have to get done, even if the methods are extreme.

Extra info about Kireek:
Kireek's Pioneer 1 rival was Heathcliff Flowen. When Kireek learns that Flowen died, he tries to fill the emptiness by doing Black Paper's dirty work, becoming the assassin The Black Hound. However, no one seems strong enough to truly challenge him as Flowen once did, so he challenges you instead, after he disappears once the authorities begin an investigation. "It is rumored that he was killed by a hunter, but the rumors are unconfirmed".

Extra info about Mags:
Mags were developed by Dr. Osto Hyle and Dr. Jean Carlos Montague. (back when Montague was 11) The Mag project is the first project that started to use the D-cells that were collected from an unmanned probe sent to Ragol. The idea is that they have found this new lifeform/substance, the D-Cells from Ragol... which is how the whole conspiracy started. Pioneer 1 WANTED to go to Ragol because they found this substance, not because it's a real paradise as they want people to believe. They wanted to mine this planet and further research the substance. The Mag project is the first to develop a new form of life. Mags' core has D-cells in it, over the top they slap a metal shell covering it, and the "Emotional AI" regulates the D-cells... it is the first machine and organic fused life form. They evolve with medical items and will change into different forms. This leads to why the Photon Mirages look the way they do. On Coral if the Mags were to have a Photon Blast it doesn't actually take a distinct shape as it does on Ragol. It is said that they do on Ragol because of the D-cells density on the planet, the "abnormal photons" as Montague said. If you look at the Photon Mirages carefully you will see they do resemble the Dark enemies, only that their body is light in colour. They share the same roots. The reason they do look different is probably because the D-cells in Mags have been worked on by human, engineering in a different way and hence it alters the mirages somewhat. The Mag project is the first step of Project MOTHER. Its sucess is required before they go on researching about more complicated lifeforms that could possibly be created with the D-cells.
